Vision: The Montclair Fund for Women's
community grants program will invest in local projects that promote
the economic empowerment, social development, and individual well-being of women and girls in our target communities.
MFW also seeks to increase individual participation in local philanthropy among women and minorities.
Submitting a Grant Application
In fiscal year 2009, which begins July 1, 2008, if funds allow, MFW will consider grant awards up to $10,000 each.
However, due to current economic conditions, we suggest that you email us grant inquiries or intentions to apply in advance.
Deadlines for FY2009 grant applications have not been established. Please send us your contact information if you want to be notified when deadlines are set.
Organizations that include or focus on men and boys are not excluded from consideration if the proposed project is designed to
improve economic, social and individual life chances for women and girls. For example projects on parenting, fatherhood,
father-daughter relations, gender relationships, etc.
MFW requires that applications be submitted in digital format in order to maximize our review process and minimize expenses.
Organizations that do not have access to e-mail or the Internet should call 973-746-9068 to speak with the director or leave a message on our voicemail.
Grant Awards Policies

MFW can only award grants to IRS tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charities.
Each grant request, first time or renewal, must include a copy of the agency’s most recent IRS tax exempt letter.

All applications must include the organization’s most recent financial statements - IRS990,
audit or certified financial statements.

MFW will not award individual scholarships, loans or grants to individuals,
loans to organizations, gifts for endowments, debt liquidation or national dues.

Grantees must use the award funds for the purpose and within the period stated in the application,
in compliance with the MFW Grant Award Terms of Agreement issued with each grant award.

Application Format
Proposals must use the following format. Kindly limit your narrative to no more than one page per topic,
with a maximum of five to seven pages, followed by appendices.
Narrative sections of the proposal must be in one WORD document file (not PDF).
Cover Page - See FORMAT below
Background - Summarize or highlight the organization's accomplishments. Reference brochure or webpage if those include comprehensive agency history that you feel is essential.
Program Narrative - Description of the project for which the award will be used should concisely convey whatever the applicant views as essential, but should minimally state:
- What are the goals of the project?
- Who are the target participants and why?
- What are the measurable objectives?
- Who, if any, are the partner organizations or businesses?
- How will you evaluate the successes and shortcomings of the project?
- Applicant’s total budget
- Proposed project budget
Appendices – Proof of IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exemption in good standing, most recent audited financial statement or 990, organizational budget, list of current board of directors/trustees
Do not send videotapes, albums, or archival originals.
Grant Reports -
Grantees must use funds and submit a grant report within twelve (12) months of the award, or request a grant modification. Applications for renewal must be preceded or accompanied by a final, or interim report on progress up to date of application. If possible, grant reports should be in Word. PDF, Excel, PowerPoint are acceptable if for financial or other appendices.
