Youth Development
The goal of positive youth development is to develop programs that help kids grow into mature, successful adults by nurturing their capabilities, not just minimizing their mistakes.

Common goals of Positive Youth Development programming include:
  • Promoting positive relationships with peers
  • Emphasizing youths' strengths
  • Providing opportunities to learn healthy behaviors
  • Connecting youth with caring adults
  • Empowering youth to assume leadership roles
  • Challenging youth in ways that build their competence

    $5,000 to the Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy, a national Delta Sigma Theta program for young women of color to improve their skills and career interests in mathematics, science and technology.

    First Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Montclair - Life Skills Academy

    $4,000 to use the Survival Skills for Youth © research-based life skills curriculum to prepare adolescent women and men to address life challenges.

    Union Congregation Church –- The Side Door

    $4,000 to support The Side Door, an after school place middle school students engage in meaningful and enjoyable activities with their peers and trained adult volunteers.

    Montclair Art Museum –- Youth Selects

    $7,600 to fund Youth Selects, an independent study program that offers two arts-interested, high school-aged artists the opportunity to learn about museum professions.
